Huxley build Part 1

A lot has happened in the last few weeks, with the majority of my time taken up with getting the front end of this site up and running. My repstrap has been left in a corner idle and broken since it started missing steps, with the UP 3D printer taking pride of place on the new bench.

This latter machine I have put through its paces printing stock for sale on this site, but in between prints I have been making some extra parts. And now I have enough parts (and time) that I feel I can start my Huxley build. The purpose of this build is two fold. Firstly, I would like to build a proper reprap machine with the knowledge learnt from building and running my repstrap. Secondly, the Huxley is the ideal design to publiscise www.emakershop.com, and our capabilities, as it is so portable.

So having obtained some bar stock, here are some details of the early stages of the build.

I’m still waiting on a couple of hundred M6 nuts and washers, hence the assemblies above are not lined up and rather wobbly. The parts are as printed on our UP 3D Printer, and the whole thing went together very easily. All holes have come out very close to size, so I was able to put all of the above together in just over 1hour including cutting all those rods.

Those of you with a keen eyesight may notice the Z tensioner and motor mount have some warp to them. I printed these during the early stages of development of my UP build platform, so although they are not aesthetically acceptable for sale items, they are still functional and so fine for this build, (all sale parts are completely flat).

The X and Y axes are missing from the above images. The reason for this is that I am in the process of shrinking the Prusa mendel design for these axes. I hopefully will have these fitted in the next few days, along with the motors from Zapp which I ordered yesterday.

Once it is fully assembled and screwed tight I will post the cutting list for all rod lengths.

Right, back to my 3D modelling…

P.S. if you like this and want to build your own, get your printed parts here…
