Getting to the Innovation Centre
on: June 18, 2011, 12:24

As there are a number of people staying on-campus, I've been asked about the best way to travel between the university and the Innovation centre.

Although it is a relatively short journey between the two venues, there is no parking at the Innovation centre. There are a few car parks near to the centre, but as they are in the centre of Bath and due to the proximity to the train station, this is likely to be an expensive option.

I've been advised that there is a frequent bus service between the university and the Innovation centre, which may be the best option. The buses to take are either the U18/ 18 / 418, these buses

are the only ones that are orange in the case of the 18/418 or bright blue for the U18. People should note that tickets are not interchangeable between these bus services (the U18 is run by a different company to the 18 / 418). Generally each of these services run every 20 minutes for reasonable hours. In practice on friday/saturday this means one of them will show up every couple of minutes but I believe the 18/418 doesn't run on Sundays. Somewhat confusingly, when wishing to return to campus the buses do not leave from the bus station. The best stop is next to the Abbey on High st. This is a short 5 minute walk from the innovation center. A copy of the the U18 timetable/map that has the innovation centre(also known as carpenter house) and the bus station in the town centre clearly labeled can be found at the following link http://www.uni-connect.com/#/timetables/4549288314.

Hope this helps

Best regards

A few tips from a local :

1) You will not want to walk between the Uni and the centre of town/course location. There is a large hill in the way. It's easiest when you're lubricated with some beer…

2) On street parking near the centre on Sunday is probably free.

3) The nearest sensible car park is probably the train station. Weekend daily rate is 6.90 :

http://www.apcoa.co.uk/carparks/bath-spa-station

"Southgate" shopping centre carpark is £12.50 for 8 hours+ and only a few hundred yards closer.

4) There are plenty of places to eat and drink in Bath. By the time you get back to campus, you've probably only got the student bar (if it's open).

5) The park and ride runs from the uni campus to the centre. Saturday 8:30-6:30.

If you've got any more questions, let me know!

All,

Just a quick update – having parked at the nearest car-park to the Innovation centre yesterday, and been charged the gigantic sum of £3.10 for less than half an hours parking, I would definitely advise taking the bus if that's an option for you!
