How to Install Pyserial on 64-bit Win7
on: October 11, 2011, 21:52

I'm new to Python and ran into a problem setting up the eMaker Printer Interface. This is for new users in the same situation.

I am running 64-bit Windows 7 on my PC. Naturally, I installed the 64-bit versions of the required files here:

http://reprap.org/wiki/Printrun

However, Pyserial is formatted for 32-bit and won't work with 64-bit Python(installer gives an error message).

How to Install Pyserial on 64-bit Win7:

Install the 32-bit versions of these programs:

-"Python 2.7.2 Windows Installer" http://www.python.org/download/

-"pyserial-py3k-2.5.win32.exe" http://pypi.python.org/pypi/pyserial

-"pyreadline-1.7.1.win32.exe" https://launchpad.net/pyreadline/+download

-"wxPython2.8-win32-unicode-py27" http://www.wxpython.org/download.php

Then install the eMaker Printer Interface:

-"Printrun" https://github.com/emaker/Printrun

TL;DR: Install everything as if you had a 32-bit computer.

Hope this helps! Don't waste an hour figuring out the problem like me!

Don't.

64-bit stuff won't work. Use all 32-bit python software.

Thanks, this helped me a lot.

Because I have a Win7 64-Bit System and installed the 64-Bit Software too.

Only that I managed to install PySerial on Win7 64-Bit by following a Guide.

The Prontersoftware also did start, but I could not connect to the Printer.

So like the above Post said the 64-Bit Python won´t work, even if its correct installed.

Help! Total Pyton newbie!

What am I supposed to install from the Printrun directory? The whole thing?

Thanks,

Rod

Yeah, the whole thing. There should be a download button near the top left of the page. It looks like this:

You probably want the pyreadline-1.7.1.win32.exe installer from http://pypi.python.org/pypi/pyreadline
