Mechanical switches are less complicated to implement and cheaper than optical endstops because they do not require a circuit board and only use 2 wires for connecting the switch. For more information check out the RepRap wiki Mechanical Endstop, this includes example mounting and wiring pictures.

In some cases you will need to use the endstops with 10k pull up resistors. Not all electronics need pull up resistors; Sanguinololu does not - check your electronics for details.

This is a listing for 3 microswitches which are ideal for use as mechanical endstops on RepRap or similar machines. They can be screwed directly onto the standard Prusa endstop holders.

In addition the kit contains 3x 10k pull up resistors and 3 lengths of 2 strand ribbon cable (each 90cm long, more than long enough to reach all axis mounting points from standard electronics mounting points). (wires not pictured)
 

These microswitches have three connectors
1 = com = wire to signal on your electronics
2 = normally closed (NC) = wire to ground on you electronics
3 = normally open = not required.
